    ESL TEACHER POSITION
    The ideal candidate for this position will work under the direct supervision of the ESL Program Specialist, to use strategies which help English Learner (EL) students achieve at high levels in the core academic subjects, to modify and deliver high quality instruction according to the Standard Course of Study and English Language Development Standards (ELD) to mainstreamed EL students, to help teachers understand the linguistic, cultural, and academic needs of EL students.

    MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
    Candidates should hold a current NC Teaching license with certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. To consult and collaborate with educators on the needs of mainstreamed EL students in their classrooms at different levels of language proficiency
    2. To use effective instructional strategies, which help ESL students achieve at high levels in the core academic subjects
    3. Meet the diverse needs of EL students relevant to improving their achievement and
    making the school experience meaningful
    4. Provide support to EL students to help them meet the same rigorous state content area assessments and achievement standards as other students
    5. Provide scaffolding support to assist EL students in learning the state curriculum as they develop language skills
    6. Create EL plans for students and maintain required paperwork
    7. Assess EL student’s language proficiency annually
    8. To maintain accurate records which reflect local, state, and federal guidelines
    9. Consult with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis
    10. Maintain a professional attitude towards students, parents, staff, and the community
    11. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy
    12. Attend required ESL meetings, staff meetings, and serve on staff committees
    13. Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the school administration

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    Physical Requirement: Ability to lift and/or carry 30 lbs. Must be able to work in an office atmosphere for the duration of the work day
    Interpersonal Communication: Ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information including giving instructions to subordinates and receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors
    Language Ability: Fluent in the English language. Ability to correspond in both verbal and written communication
    Intelligence: Ability to apply principles or rational systems as applied to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagrammatic, or scheduled form
    Verbal Aptitude: Comfortable with public speaking. Ability to dictate correspondence. Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions
    Numerical Aptitude: Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, and to determine percentages and decimals
    Motor Coordination: Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and typical office equipment
    Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress
    Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear. Must be able to communicate via a telephone and a computer
