Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires states and districts to provide all students, including English learners (ELs), equal access to educational opportunities. In order to fulfill the law’s requirements beginning in the 2017–2108 school year, educators need the tools and accurate data-collection systems in place to give them decision-making information.
Local school districts and schools will be required to accurately recommend placement in quality language programs, and effectively monitor students’ progress to ensure the district provides the instructional support necessary for every EL to attain the high academic goals established by the state for all students.
Project ELL provides the tools in a custom environment to make the progress-monitoring process simple using digitized and automated data elements. The customizable online platform allows districts to manage and track goals, accommodations, assessments, and grades, as well as to utilize that same data to drive instruction. Teachers can develop lesson plans and differentiate instruction on a per-student or per-group basis through analyzing valid “actionable” data collected from state and district assessments.
Access to the environment is encouraged districtwide, so unlimited users with specific roles are provided at no extra cost, allowing every key role including teachers, counselors, specialists, coordinators, directors, and administrators access to vital academic information ensuring students’ success. Districts determine the number of users who access the system to develop highly individualized district strategic plans, school action frameworks, or classroom lesson plans that meet the specific academic challenges of ELs.
The Project ELL development team is constantly developing features and capabilities to ensure each district has access to new tools, for which district users are not charged, so users reap the rewards of a tool that continues to grow, allowing educators more power to impact student achievement.
