This week the U.S. House of Representatives will debate the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act of 2015 (H.R. 1806). The bill could seriously jeapordize federal funding for research in linguistics and social sciences by reducing funding for National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported research by $120 million. This nearly 50% budget cut would change the NSF funding process in ways that would further impede resources for social science research. More information on the bill is available from the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) and the Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA).
COSSA has provided this automatic tool to contact your member of congress and address linguistic and social science research funding in the America COMPETES bill.
The House is set to debate the bill as soon as May 20th so prompt action is appreciated.
