Concluding the Semaine Internationale de la Francophonie, the French ambassador to Pakistan announced that France would be promoting the language and culture more aggressively in Pakistan.
“We are planning on developing series of activities, engaging universities and institutions to not just promote the language but the cultural aspect as well,” Ambassador Thiébaud explained. “Promoting the language in high schools is a part of the long term strategy, but cooperation in all areas is essential.”
Due to security issues in Pakistan, the number of native-speaking French teachers has decreased, along with enrollment in French courses. The ambassador insisted that French language acquisition is key for landing work in international companies that require French language skills or for immigrating to a French-speaking country.
