Study Abroad Campaign for K-12 Teachers

OT-Generation-Study-Abroad-graphic-001-high-resToday, the Institute of International Education (IIE) is officially launching a new campaign to recruit 1,000 K-12 teachers to join Generation Study Abroad, a five-year initiative to double the number of U.S. college students studying abroad.

According to the Institute, “Teachers are powerful motivators when it comes to encouraging students to pursue any and all types of global study, from classroom projects in elementary school to study abroad programs in college. They are uniquely positioned to inspire curiosity about the world by teaching all subjects through a global lens, as well as incorporating international content into their lesson plans, language learning, and exchange programs.”

By joining IIE Generation Study Abroad, teachers will join a national movement to globalize the K-12 classroom and will gain access to185931004 news and networking opportunities as well as resources to enhance instruction. To achieve their goal of doubling study abroad by the end of the decade, the IIE believes it is essential to work with teachers at the K-12 level and support them in building a pipeline of students ready to undertake international experiences in college. The earlier students are exposed to foreign cultures, languages, and international current events, the better.
